Quarto (11 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches; 293 x 240 mm.). xv, [i blank], 267, [imprint]. Twenty full page color plates, mounted onto heavy stock gray paper, with captioned tissue guards. Publishers full vellum, front cover and spine decoratively stamped and lettered in gilt. Two plates with very light corner creases, original silk-ties replaced, otherwise a fine copy.
Ella Wheeler Wilcox (November 5, 1850 – October 30, 1919) was an American author and poet. Her best-known work was Poems of Passion. Her most enduring work was Solitude, which contains the lines, "Laugh, and the world laughs with you; weep, and you weep alone". Her autobiography, The Worlds and I, was published in 1918, a year before her death.
Charles Dudley Tennant (active 1898-1918) was a painter and illustrator. His work was typical of its period.
His book illustrations include Poems of Passion and Pleasure (1912), and The Complete Story of Old Mother Hubbard (1916).
