First edition. Octavo (9 5/16 x 5 7/8 inches; 236 x 152 mm.). [viii], 278, [1, blank], [1, imprint] pp. Engraved vignette title and 25 full-page engraved plates printed on India paper and mounted onto card. Plates engraved under the direction of Charles Heath.
Publisher's full dark green morocco by F. Westley with his ticket on rear paste-down. Covers decoratively bordered in blind, spine with five shallow raised bands decoratively ruled in gilt and lettered in gilt in compartments, gilt ruled board-edges and turn-ins, pale yellow coated endpapers, all edges gilt. Minimal occasional foxing, otherwise very fine.
The Tourist in Switzerland and Italy was the first of nine annuals issued under the general title The Landscape Annual. The subsequent volumes were on Italy, France, and Spain.
