One of 750 Copies -In the Original Cellophane
GREENE, Graham. Yes and No and For Whom the Bell Chimes. London: The Bodley Head, [1983].
First edition, first impression. Limited to 750 numbered copies (this copy no. 111), signed by the author.
Small octavo (8 1/8 x 4 15/16 inches; 207 x 100 mm.). [2], [8], 9–91, [1], [2, blank] pp.
Publisher’s olive green cloth over boards, front cover and spine lettered in gilt, preserved in the original publisher’s cellophane wrapper. A fine copy.
A late Greene dramatic work comprising two short plays: Yes and No, a sharply observed two-character piece set in the theatrical world, and For Whom the Bell Chimes, a comic monologue that plays wryly on themes of performance, mortality, and self-awareness. Together they represent Greene’s continued engagement with the stage in the final phase of his career.
Issued in a signed limitation of 750 copies, examples are not uncommon, but copies retaining the original cellophane wrapper are decidedly less so, having often been removed or discarded.
A particularly well-preserved example of this attractive Bodley Head limited edition.
