1. Original Photograph, Signed and Dated
Affixed to the front pastedown, an original photograph of Kubrick at work behind the camera, boldly inscribed in red ink:

“Best Wishes / Stanley Kubrick / Oct. 13, 1972”

2. Autograph Note, Loosely Inserted
A one-page autograph note, dated January 10, 1972, in Kubrick’s hand:

“Dear Leslie—
I am enormously flattered.
I hope to see you soon.
Best regards,
Stanley Kubrick”

A Cohesive Kubrick - Bricusse Archive:
An exceptional and highly unusual survival: a three-part, internally coherent archive documenting a personal exchange between two major figures of twentieth-century culture. Rather than an isolated autograph, the present group preserves a sequence of interaction - a private note, a presentation inscription, and a separately signed photograph - each reinforcing the authenticity and significance of the others.

Kubrick’s autograph material is notoriously scarce, particularly in extended or informal formats. Even brief notes such as the present example are seldom encountered, and when combined with a signed photograph and inscribed book, form a substantial and meaningful body of material.

Context and Association:
The recipient, Leslie Bricusse - Oscar-winning lyricist and composer - was deeply embedded in the film and theatrical world of the period. Kubrick’s tone - “with admiration” and “I am enormously flattered” - suggests a relationship grounded in professional respect rather than routine fan correspondence.

The dated photograph (October 13, 1972) and note (January 10, 1972) situate the exchange squarely in the immediate aftermath of A Clockwork Orange (1971), at a moment when Kubrick’s influence and visibility were at their height.

Rarity and Significance: Kubrick inscriptions are rare in any form; Autograph notes are distinctly uncommon;
Signed photographs, especially dated examples, are highly desirable and association copies to major cultural figures are exceedingly scarce.

A rare and compelling Kubrick association archive, linking director and lyricist at a pivotal moment in modern film history - an object of considerable importance for collectors of cinema, twentieth-century culture, and significant literary associations.
